Like most of us, as a child, I enjoyed watching my grandmother dance quadrille in Jamaica and was inspired by her. I was glad of the opportunity to join Mr. Clarke’s group to learn the dance. I danced with a young man for a short time, who was very good. He also inspired me and held my interest. But I became even more interested in dancing quadrille after learning it’s history and the part our ancestors played in it when Beverley started leading the group. It also brings our people together. It is a good form of exercise of body, soul and mind and the spiritual aspect of it is good. Quadrille is our heritage and it keeps our history alive to pass on to the next generation like it has been passed on to us. That’s the other reason why I dance Quadrille.
