An Evening with JÁNUKA – The Will to Survive – Part 4 – The Motherland Experience (2025)

4 October 2025

An evening with JÁNUKA 4th October 2025

You are cordially invited to spend an evening with JÁNUKA, a Quadrille dance group based in South East London. JÁNUKA is an acronym meaning Jamaican Nurses in the UK and their Associates.

We are a small group of volunteers who have been happily dancing Quadrille, Jamaican Style, since 2006, locally, nationally and internationally. We perform in private and public settings, attracting inter-generational and multi-cultural audiences, to rapturous applause. Our portfolio of activities also include other Jamaican traditional dances; singing and dancing to Jamaican folk songs; amateur dramatic; storytelling, ring games, poetry recitals; and dance workshops in schools and community settings. Our primary aim is to entertain, educate, empower and inspire positive awareness of our Jamaican / Caribbean cultural heritage that is intricately linked with “The Motherland”.

We plan to showcase our traditional cultural event entitled “The Will to Survive – Part 4: The Motherland Experience” in Birmingham, on Saturday 4th October 2025; at The Legacy Centre of Excellence: 144 Potters Lane, Aston, Birmingham, B6 4UU @ 19.00hrs – 21.30 hrs.

This multifaceted programme will include reminiscing; singing and dancing to Jamaican folk songs; recital; and Ballroom Style, Camp Style and Contra Style Quadrille dancing.

We strongly believe this is an exceptional opportunity to herald in Black History Month (2025) in Birmingham, in a prestigious environment where you can relax, reflect and learn more about our shared heritage in a positively entertaining way.

JANUKA dancers are proud of our ancestors’ achievements, despite the hardships they endured. We share their passionate love of music and dance; celebrate their resilience; resourcefulness; determination; mental and physical triumph over oppression.
